It happened on our way to Dallas and it was unavoidable. As soon as she saw the sign for the state park, I knew we were taking a side trip. “It won’t take too long”, Evy said with excitement in her voice. After seeing more and more signs that explained that it was the second biggest canyon in the United States, behind the Grand Canyon, there was nothing stopping Evy from taking a detour. Needless to say, I was not as excited as she was. We got lots, stopped for directions, drove through farms, surrounded by snow on the ground and finally we reached the entrance of the park.
“Sorry, but due to dangerous snow conditions the park is closed today.”
You should have seen our faces. After some talking, we found out that the vistor center was still open but anything beyond that was off limits.
We were the only ones in the whole park.
“Ay, Evy” became a trip motto after that.
