The Story

Self Portrait Project // Drag // Hair

So it finally happened.

I full on did Drag. By that I mean I completely shaved and went all out for this look. After months and months of makeup practice. I watched youtube videos, I asked advice from the most famous drag queens in the world and even got my roommate and family to give me tips.

Even after all that practice. It came out very amateur. I kept sweating. I kept getting flustered. I didn’t like the colors. So I just started piling more and more on. But in the end I kinda love the look. I just look at myself and think of the song “Hair” by Lady Gaga, one of my favorites from her.

This is the first of three looks. While the other two are more “Drag” this one is more “Club Kid”.

there is even a video on the process [CLICK HERE] to watch it.

I need to give a shout out to all my close friends that do drag for a living. This had to be one of the hardest self portraits I have ever done. All three looks took me the entire day. Hours of makeup application. HOURS. I can’t imagine having to do it everyday.

And to all the drag queens I have photographed: Robbie Turner, Jinkx Monsoon, Ivy Winters, Willam, Gia Gunn, Dakota D’vil, and especially to Laganja Estranja (who provided the wigs). Thank you guys for all the amazing tips and tricks that you shared.

The amazing nails are done by the incredibly talented Vie over at Unicorns Poop Glitter

Makeup: From Kryolan, Mac Cosmetics and Makeup Forever. I quickly learned just how intense expensive all this makeup is. But its so fun to play with.

So here you go. 1st look of that day.
