The Story

Kim Chi // CLAMP Editorial

Kim Chi.

Most of you know Kim Chi from Season 8 of Rupaul’s Drag Race. But, I actually knew her way before her time on the show. I had been following her on social media for some time. Always in awe of the incredible artistic looks she would come up with. She is, undoubtably, one of the most incredible and visual drag queens world wide.

I knew Kim Chi is an anime fan, just like me. So when I emailed her some ideas, one of them was inspired by one of my favorite anime’s named X from Clamp. In the manga and anime, there is a character named Princess Hinoto and I thought it would be cool to see Kim Chi’s interpretation of her (I just had to look up how to spell interpretation….this is where my life I right now). Anyway! Turns out she was a fan of the manga as well and BAM. Here we are.

Kim Chi is insanely good at taking photos. She knows her poses and she perfectly gets into the character she is playing. It is pretty amazing to see. This shoot took 3.2 seconds.

The backdrop was built out of images from the manga itself.

Beautiful work Gabriel… Kim Chi was my favourite contestant of season 8, she should have taken first place! Maybe she was a little too reserved on the show, her unassuming nature was perhaps hiding her immense talent a little too much on screen.
